KMS has an ambitious student outreach program in which we involve music students from all of Washington County’s high schools in side-by-side playing opportunities with KMS musicians, in concert. Future plans include full orchestra experiences to include winds and percussion players, as well as full wind ensemble.
Our first side-by-side project was with the West Bend High School chamber orchestra, rehearsing and performing Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings in C Major, Op. 48 in February 2019.
KMS and student musicians prepare to play Tchaikovsky, side by side in concert.
“Symphony Storytime” days are held four mornings per year at the West Bend Community Memorial Library and are based on the current KMS music program, season or holiday. All programs are great for kids and parents alike!
Themed with the season or an upcoming symphony concert program, these Saturday morning programs usually feature a book, a craft or other hands-on project, and musical listening which combine to show the connection between literature, music and the arts. This is a joint venture between the Kettle Moraine Symphony and the library, coordinated by KMS education liason, Hannah Muehlbauer, and staffed by high school band, orchestra and Interact (high school Rotary) students and a symphony musician or two.
The program is geared for ages 4-9, but all ages (including adults) are welcome.
